What a mini session is

A mini session is a short, fixed-scope shoot — usually 15 to 20 minutes at a single location chosen by the photographer, with one outfit and a small curated gallery of edited images. Photographers run minis back-to-back in blocks, which is why the price point sits well below a standard session: you're buying an efficient slot in a pre-lit, pre-scouted setup.

Mini vs. full session: the honest comparison

A standard session buys time and flexibility — 45 to 90 minutes, multiple outfits, location changes, and room for a toddler's warm-up period or a golden-hour wait. A mini buys efficiency: the location, light, and timing are already decided. Neither is 'better'; they're different products. The mistake is booking a mini for a job that needs slack — a first newborn-sibling shoot, a large extended family, or anyone who's nervous in front of a camera. When minis are the smart call

  • Annual family updates. If your crew has done photos before and just needs this year's frame, a mini is perfect — pair it with our family photographers.
  • Holiday cards. Fall mini blocks exist almost entirely for December cards; book by early October.
  • Headshot refreshes. A quick update of an existing look, not a first-time branding shoot.
  • Milestones between milestones. Half-birthday baby updates, back-to-school markers, watch-me-grow series.
  • Testing a photographer. A low-commitment way to experience a style before booking a full senior or portrait session.

Show up five minutes early, outfits decided, kids fed, and the format works brilliantly. Arrive ten minutes late to a fifteen-minute product and no photographer alive can give you back the difference.
